Master Myung’s Taekwondo Academy: Taekwondo attire you need

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be like the martial arts experts in the movies? Being versed in the ways of taekwondo is something common for those who want to learn basic self-defence. You can learn discipline as well as the basic forms, and it also serves as a great way to exercise.

Taekwondo is a sport that first originated in Korea. It’s origins date back to 2,000 years ago when people were looking for a way to perform unarmed combat. The sport was derived from Korean martial arts and Japanese karate, making a martial art form that is being practised by over 70 million people all over the world.

Here at Master Myung’s Taekwondo Academy, we teach students of all ages to learn taekwondo and eventually become skilled masters. Our teachers are all black belters certified to teach the sport here in Canada. You can become a taekwondo master yourself when you enrol in our academy!

First things first, you will need to prepare your attire before starting the training period. The official taekwondo uniform, or ‘dobok’, is composed of three different parts. To learn more, see the description of each part below:

  1. Jacket
The taekwondo jacket is traditionally white and features a v-neck outline. The left side of the jacket symbolizes the power of the mind while the right side symbolizes physical strength. While training or competing, this jacket needs to be closed to combine these two elements.
  2. Pants
The pants that are worn while wearing taekwondo are also traditionally white. They are loose and reach ankle length to provide enough room for the student no matter what position they are trying to perform. This makes it comfortable to do high kicks and roll on the ground if necessary.
  3. Belt
Possibly one of the most iconic and important parts of the taekwondo uniform is the belt. A student’s belt depends on their skill level and mastery of the sport. Beginners start with a white belt and advance to other colours like yellow, orange, blue, and red among others. The highest-ranking a taekwondo student can have is a black belt. These are considered the masters of the sport.
